DATA: OUR FUTURE'S MOST VALUABLE ASSET
Vivian is a Hackwagon graduate and is 1 year into her job as a Senior Analyst. In this feature, we will be talking to her about her current role at a HR consulting firm and her thoughts on how data science is changing the business landscape and the future of work.

Well, there’s an “Analyst” in my job title so you probably might have guessed that I spend most of my time working with data. I work on job evaluation to come up with a structure within an organisation and achieve some sort of internal equity across the job roles. I also work on compensation benchmarking based on my company’s survey database by industry and design a salary structure to keep everyone‘s pay competitive to the external market. We basically structure pay in a way to motivate certain behaviours, and of course, as a tool to attract and retain key talent.
I’ve always been interested in Python and have completed the beginner’s course in Codecademy. It was pretty easy but I found that I haven’t been able to apply it to my work or even do it outside of the web page’s instructions itself. Therefore, I’ve decided to invest in this course in order to find out more about applying the skills to my job.

Data science definitely tops the list, coupled with human and machine collaboration.
Throughout the 7-week course, I managed to apply Python to real-life scenarios in the homework exercises and case studies. What I found particularly helpful was that the instructor gave real-life examples and scenarios for us to work on, which really teaches us application. Also, the instructor was super helpful and open to help me out figure out how to apply Python in my own work after I showed him some sanitised files I had been working on. That is something you can never get from an online course and I truly value that about Hackwagon. Looking forward to the next class!
